Custom Software

Software that fits how your team actually works.

Internal portals, admin tools, and workflow automation for teams that outgrew spreadsheets, sticky notes, and that one Zapier hack. Product discovery first, then a senior team builds exactly what you need.

Led by Tanya Rofman, senior product manager, 12+ years. Product and design by me, a senior engineering team when the build needs one, and some systems I ship end to end myself.

What I build

What kind of custom software does Velonova build?

Velonova builds the software your team actually runs on: internal portals, admin and ops tools, workflow automation, legacy replacements, reporting dashboards, and AI-powered tools. All custom, shaped around your real process instead of someone else's product.

01

Internal portals

One home for the data, docs, and requests scattered across six tools.

02

Admin & ops tools

Search that works, permissions that make sense, buttons that do the thing.

03

Workflow automation

Handoffs, approvals, and Monday reports, running on their own.

04

Legacy modernization

The old database nobody dares touch, replaced without downtime.

05

Reporting & dashboards

KPIs straight from your systems, not pasted into a deck.

06

AI-powered tools

Summaries, extraction, drafting, woven into your workflow.

The product angle

Why does a product manager build custom software?

Because most custom software fails at the requirements stage, not in the code. Every project starts with real product discovery: watching how your team works, mapping the process, and cutting scope honestly. Then we build exactly that, and nothing else.

  • The same discovery I run for SaaS companies: interviews, process mapping, ruthless prioritization.
  • A different deliverable: here you do not get a slide deck about the fix. You get working software.
  • Design-led, no middlemen: I lead product and design on every system, a senior engineering team joins when the build needs one, and some I build end to end myself.

Custom means custom: built around your process, your data, and the way your team actually works. Not another SaaS subscription your process has to bend around.

How it works

How does a custom software project work?

Every project runs the same five phases: Discover, Define, Design, Build, and Launch. Most systems go live in six to ten weeks. You see progress continuously along the way, and at hand-off 100% of the code, design, and IP is yours.

01

Discover

Week 1

We sit with your team, watch how the work actually happens, and find every workaround. The spreadsheets, the copy-paste, the "ask Dana, she knows". Then we map the system that should exist.

  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Workflow audit
  • Scope & success metrics
02

Define

Weeks 1-2

We translate what we learned into a precise, written plan: what we build and, just as important, what we deliberately leave out.

  • Product requirements
  • Process & workflow mapping
  • Data model & automation plan
03

Design

Weeks 2-3

Flows and screens you can click as a real prototype. You approve the experience before anyone writes production code.

  • Interactive prototype
  • Component library
  • Stakeholder sign-off
04

Build

Weeks 3-7

TypeScript, React, Node, Postgres. Working software you can try as it grows, not a big reveal at the end.

  • Weekly working builds
  • Real data early
  • Short feedback loops
05

Launch & hand-off

Week 7+

Migration, training, documentation. Then the system is yours: code, design, and IP, all of it.

  • Data migration
  • Team training
  • Docs + 100% IP hand-off

Questions

Answered directly, the way AI engines like it.

Does Velonova build custom software?

Yes. Alongside fractional product leadership and websites, Velonova builds custom software: internal portals, admin tools, workflow automation, and bespoke systems for teams outgrowing spreadsheets and off-the-shelf SaaS. Projects run five phases and typically launch in six to ten weeks, and clients keep 100% of the code, design, and IP.

What kind of projects fit?

Teams running critical operations on spreadsheets, copy-paste, and disconnected tools: internal portals, admin and operations tools, workflow automation, legacy system replacements, reporting dashboards, and AI-powered internal tools. If the problem is "our process lives in Excel and in one person's head", that is the fit.

How long does a custom software project take?

Most projects launch in six to ten weeks, through five phases: Discover (week 1), Define (weeks 1-2), Design (weeks 2-3), Build (weeks 3-7), and Launch with full hand-off from week 7. Complex migrations can take longer, and you get an honest estimate after the scoping call.

Who builds the software?

Tanya Rofman leads every project across product and design: discovery, requirements, scope, UX, and UI. A senior engineering team joins for the build when the project needs one, and some systems she builds end to end herself. The person you talk to on the scoping call is the person who designs your system.

Who owns the code and the IP?

You do. At hand-off, 100% of the code, design files, and intellectual property transfers to you. No lock-in, no per-seat license, no hostage software. Velonova can stay on for support, but staying is a choice, not a trap.
